Thionville. Trails, canicross and walking: The Volkrange Escapade brought together 576 participants

Between the Richemontoise, the 10 km of Saint-Avold, the Foulées du Cristal in Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche and the Escapade de Volkrange in Thionville, there was no excuse not to find a race this weekend in Moselle. Just a stone's throw from the Château de Volkrange, with a start given at the Saint-Michel community center, 576 bibs, in total, were distributed for the 15 and 10 km trails as well as for the canicross and the walk. That's more than 200 additional participants compared to the 2024 edition which brought together 322 people.

"We were even taken by surprise, as registrations were completed at the last minute. It's satisfying to see a large number of participants, compared to last year. Especially since the profits we'll be able to give to three associations fighting against disability will be greater. That was the goal," rejoices Sylvain Stein, organizer of L'Escapade de Volkrange for the Saint-Michel center. The profits will be distributed to the association for Aid to Parents of Children Suffering from Anticonvulsant Syndrome (Apesac), Hameau d'Olivier, and P'tits Potos.

The blue skies above Volkrange Castle provided optimal conditions for runners and walkers. The heat felt in the late morning may have been responsible for a slight drop in the number of participants for canicross. "Usually, we have around 40 registered for this discipline. Today, it was more like 20. The high temperatures mean that owners don't necessarily want to run their dogs," he admits.
For this 7th edition, 230 people took part in the 10 km race and 210 in the 15 km event . A little over a hundred preferred to walk the course. More than 80 volunteers were mobilized throughout the circuit.
The same format will be offered at the Volkrange Ambush, at night, on February 7, 2026. In the past, the event has already brought together 650 participants, equipped with their headlamps.
