United States: Washington deploys 200 soldiers to Florida to assist anti-immigration police

"Approximately 200 Marines […] are moving to Florida" to support ICE, the U.S. Northern Command announced in a statement. "The service members participating in this mission will be performing strictly non-law enforcement duties," meaning "administrative and logistical," and "they will be specifically prohibited from having direct contact with individuals held in ICE custody," the same source said.

These marines will also remain "on ICE premises."

"Alcatraz of the alligators"

Earlier this week, Donald Trump toured a new Florida detention center dubbed the "Alcatraz for Alligators" by both the White House and local officials. It can hold up to 1,000 people.

In June, the Republican leader sent 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines to Los Angeles in response to protests against ICE raids in the western Californian metropolitan area.
