Video: Supertramp frontman Rick Davies dies at 81

Musician Rick Davies, co-founder of the band Supertramp, has died aged 81.

The sad news was announced in an official statement from Supertramp on Monday: Rick Davies died at the age of 81 on Saturday after "battling multiple myeloma for over a decade," it said. "He was the voice and pianist behind Supertramp's most iconic songs, leaving an indelible mark on rock history."

The musician is described as the "beating heart" of the iconic group, thanks to "his soulful voice and his incomparable touch on the Wurlitzer", the electric piano that gave this very particular sound to the music of the British rock group.

“Rick’s music and legacy,” the statement added, “continue to inspire many and are a testament to the fact that great songs never die, they live on.”
