By Louis ValleauThe Alpes-Maritimes targeted again? An electrical transformer "was set on fire west of Nice, depriving nearly 45,000 people from Nice to Cagnes of electricity," Christian Estrosi posted on the social network X, the day after a massive power outage in Cannes and its surrounding areas, likely due to malicious acts. The situation has since been resolved.
According to a police source, the electrical transformer in question is located in the Nice West sector. It was targeted by a fire "presumably of criminal origin" around 2:35 a.m. on the night of Saturday to Sunday. The Nice judicial police have been notified.
"The national and municipal police are mobilized. Full recovery is underway. I strongly denounce these malicious acts affecting our country. We are making images from our monitoring center available to investigators and will be strengthening the city's network at strategic electrical sites in the coming days," wrote Christian Estrosi. He added that the city will file a complaint.
According to Gaël Nofri, deputy mayor of Nice, "the airport and the transport network have been impacted." "Thank you to the firefighters, national and municipal police officers and engineers who were mobilized," he also wrote on X.
