Agriculture: in the footsteps of agri-sentinels

Agriculture: in the footsteps of agri-sentinels

For 30 years, Franck Bethys has been crisscrossing the roads of Vendée. Every day, he goes to the farms to examine the cattle and watch over the farmers. He is a specialist in animal reproduction. The agricultural technician keeps an eye on everything. He is also an agri-sentinel. He monitors the state of the farm, the behavior of the farmers and the health of the cattle.

Franck Bethys spends an average of three hours on each farm. Discreetly, he watches for signs of weakness among the breeders. He has been carrying out this voluntary mission for seven years.

Like Franck Bethys, more than 6,000 sentinels watch over farmers in France, and sometimes their loved ones. Listening and providing information, the sentinel's role ends there. A voluntary action that leaves its mark. "When we intervene at times of heightened crises, it is inevitably a very strong dose of emotion," he says.
