Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. How are electricity consumption and production evolving in the region?

In 2024, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region consumed 63.3 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity, according to the French electricity transmission network (RTE). Up 2.4% from the previous year , regional consumption represents 14% of national consumption.
Unsurprisingly, the largest consumers of electricity are businesses and individuals. They alone used nearly half of all electricity: 43.3% in total.
The tertiary sector (excluding transport and telecommunications) comes in second with 18.4% of electricity consumed. This is followed by the metallurgy sector (excluding the automotive industry), which consumed 10.1% of regional electricity.

To support this increase in consumption, regional electricity production is also up, by 2.1%. It will reach 119.1 TWh of electricity produced in 2024 and represent 22% of national electricity production.
As in the previous year, nuclear power accounted for the majority of production, at 67.3%. However, its production volume decreased (-4.1%) compared to 2023. Hydropower generated 21.8% more electricity in 2024, thus stabilizing its position as the region's second-largest source of electricity.
