Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes: Business failures still on the rise in the region in the first quarter of 2025

4,088. This is the number of business failures recorded in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in the first half of 2025, representing 11.7% of national failures. This figure represents a 2% increase compared to the first half of 2024, according to a study conducted by the credit insurance company Allianz Trade.
These companies on the verge of bankruptcy are in receivership, in safeguard proceedings or in liquidation.
In the first half of the year, the Rhône region led the way among departments with the most companies on the verge of bankruptcy: 1,180 insolvencies in total. Isère and Loire followed closely behind, with 625 and 381 insolvencies respectively.
However, the region is also marked by significant heterogeneity. While the Rhône region recorded a double-digit increase in insolvencies, 17% compared to 2024, the Loire and Ain regions decreased by 4% and 2% respectively.
In the region, the services sector recorded the highest insolvency rate, at 34% over the last 12 months. This is followed by construction (23%) and trade (20%).
After a peak in insolvencies in 2024 (17%) and 2023 (37%), the economic climate remains marked by instability and loss experience. "Companies continue to face numerous challenges such as the end and repayment of aid, the resumption of summonses by tax and social security services, as well as geopolitical uncertainties," analyzes Maxime Lemerle, head of insolvency research at Alliance Trade.
He added: "The trade war initiated by the United States could lead to a number of bankruptcies higher than our forecasts for 2025 and 2026, estimated at 67,500 and 65,000 respectively."
