Driven by the new R5, Renault announces an increase in its global sales in the first half of the year

The diamond-shaped brand is seeing its global and European sales increase. These strong results were boosted by the successful launch of the R5, the automotive group's flagship car.

Full throttle. The Renault car manufacturing group, which also includes Dacia and Alpine, has announced an increase in its global sales in the first half of the year, even stronger in Europe. In a press release, the diamond brand reported 1,169,773 vehicles sold in the first half of 2025 (+1.3% compared to 2024). These results contrast with those of the Stellantis automotive group - the giant resulting from the merger of French PSA, Peugeot-Citroën, and Fiat-Chrysler.

The R5 is proving to be a real commercial success for the diamond-shaped brand—and by far its flagship all-electric model. With 49,000 sales since its launch, the new Renault 5 ranks first in its category in France, and also in Europe.

This success notably contributed to the decision taken a few days ago to create an additional half-shift production team—on an interim basis—starting this fall at the Douai site in northern France, where the R5 is manufactured. More than 500 people are expected to join the factory as reinforcements.

In addition to the R5, Renault can also rely on the continued strong performance of the Clio and the Dacia Sandero: once again No. 1 and No. 2 in sales in Europe in the first half of the year. Mostly in gasoline versions, and in hybrid for the Clio. The manufacturer assures that 59% of vehicles sold by Renault are electrified and that nearly one in two vehicles sold by the brand is hybrid (+36.2% compared to the first half of 2024). Finally, 100% electric vehicles represent more than 16% of its sales (+57.0% compared to the first half of 2024).

The only downside: a 29% drop in sales on the European market for utility vehicles, vans and light vans, which is suffering from a major slowdown.
