Holiday departures: garages are full

Before racking up the miles on the road to their vacation destination, drivers need to make sure their vehicles are in good condition. Faced with this high demand, garages are taking action.
Traffic jams are building up at a family garage in Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine), a suburb of Paris. Just before the holidays, repairs are back-to-back, lasting nearly ten hours a day. Normally, this garage handles fifteen vehicles a day, but in July, it's around twenty. A summer service is essential for many drivers, allowing them to set off with peace of mind without taking any risks.
At this garage, the average bill exceeds 400 euros, because in addition to tires, which often need changing, the air conditioning units are showing signs of wear this year. "Right now, with the heatwave, everyone is having air conditioning problems ," says Philippe Pedro, workshop manager at the Œillets garage. The owner assures us that despite the very high demand, there's no question of him raising prices. Above all, he has to keep a close eye on his spare parts inventory. To get a precious appointment, expect a wait of two to three weeks today.
