Hydroguides to raise awareness of the dangers of dams in the Dordogne Valley

Guides will be present throughout the summer at several dam and hydroelectric power plant sites in the Dordogne Valley to raise public awareness of the risks of drowning.
Electricité de France (EDF) is warning of a little-known danger. As the summer season is in full swing, the company is calling for vigilance near dams and hydroelectric power plants in the Dordogne Valley.
"Walkers, swimmers, fishermen, and those involved in whitewater sports may encounter sudden changes in the flow or water level of a lake or river. They may then be swept away by the current or find themselves isolated on an island in the middle of a waterway," EDF stated in a press release.
To raise awareness among Périgord residents and tourists, the company is mobilizing 11 "hydroguides" throughout the summer. These seasonal workers are working on prevention activities at several sites. They are positioned around lakes and rivers and offer several tips, including heeding signs, staying on the banks, and respecting areas marked by buoys.
