In Île-de-France, farmers earn a better living than elsewhere, according to an INSEE study

Households in the Paris region that run a farm have a much higher income than those found elsewhere in metropolitan France, INSEE assures in a study published this Tuesday. A finding that those mainly concerned take with a pinch of salt.
By Florian Garcia and Mehdi GherdaneTo make a comfortable living from agriculture , it is better to be based in Île-de-France and to be at the head of a large farm. This is indicated by a study by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) published on Tuesday, February 25. According to the institute, which is based on 2020 data, the average annual income of agricultural households in Île-de-France exceeds the 80,000 euro mark. A figure 63% higher than the average in metropolitan France.
According to this study, revealed the day after the meeting between the Prime Minister and the four main organisations in the sector (FNSEA, Young Farmers, Rural Coordination and Confédération paysanne), just over 4,100 households run a farm in Île-de-France. But this activity is not their only resource: 36% of their income comes from agricultural profits. Those linked to their assets, in particular rented real estate, represent 39%, the rest coming from other activities or from annuities, retirements and pensions.
