New CEO Antonio Filosa, a man of reconciliation to relaunch Stellantis

The Stellantis automotive group, which includes the Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, and Chrysler brands, announced on Wednesday, May 28, that Italian Antonio Filosa would succeed Carlos Tavares as its CEO. The news was enthusiastically welcomed on the other side of the Alps, even though Filosa will have his work cut out to revive a group mired in a deep crisis.

From the very beginning of its article, Il Sole 24 Ore sets the scene . And the least we can say is that it's not encouraging. "The phase Stellantis, and the automotive market in general, is going through is very complex," warns the business daily. "In 2024, the group's revenue compared to the previous year will have fallen by 17% and net profit by 70%."

Added to these difficulties, the Milanese media adds, "are the uncertainties linked to the customs duties imposed by [US President Donald] Trump on imports of cars and components into the United States." The picture is therefore bleak, and the task of steering Stellantis safely through these rough seas will now fall to a new figure, who succeeds Carlos Tavares: the Italian Antonio Filosa.
