Senate passes Trump's 'big, beautiful bill,' 'a Robin Hood in reverse'

On July 1st, the President of the United States narrowly secured a vote in favor of the major budget bill dubbed the "Big Beautiful Bill." The bill must return to the House of Representatives, where its final passage is uncertain. This bill, which increases the deficit and undermines social protection, does not have unanimous support within the Republican camp.
“The Senate narrowly approved Tuesday the sweeping bill that Republicans hope will be the centerpiece of Donald Trump’s second presidential term,” reports The Washington Post . this July 1st. A text “which drastically reorients the role of the federal state and undoes a good part of the work of the Biden administration.”
It's a victory for President Trump, but it was a close call: it took the decisive vote of Vice President J.D. Vance to tip the scales and pass in the Senate, by a vote of 51 to 50, his "one, big, beautiful bill," the very Trumpian official name given to it by the Republicans – and which the Democrats succeeded in having abandoned.
Three Republican lawmakers voted against the bill: Susan Collins (Maine), Thom Tillis (North Carolina) and Rand Paul (Kentucky).
In all, "senators spent nearly 48 consecutive hours reading, debating, and amending the bill in the chamber." And it's not over yet: "the bill faces a new obstacle: the House of Representatives, many of whose members are upset by the Senate's changes" to the version passed in May. While Republicans also hold a narrow majority there, the lower chamber could still derail the process.
