Spain: Emergency disembarkation of Ryanair flight after false fire alarm results in injuries

A false fire alarm on board a Ryanair plane preparing to take off from Spain's Palma de Mallorca airport led to an evacuation using inflatable ramps, during which several passengers suffered minor injuries, the Irish airline announced on Saturday, July 5.

Friday night's Palma de Mallorca-Manchester flight "suspended takeoff due to a false fire alarm. Passengers were disembarked via inflatable ramps and taken back to the terminal," Ryanair said.

"During disembarkation, a small number of passengers suffered very minor injuries (sprained ankles, etc.) and the crew requested immediate medical assistance," Ryanair added, without specifying the number.

Local media outlets in Mallorca, such as Última Hora, reported 18 injuries, all minors, six of whom required hospitalization, while the others were treated on site. The newspaper also published a video filmed by an airport employee showing passengers descending through the wing of the aircraft.
