The path then leaves the greenery to wander behind the citadel, skirting the moats that protected Belfort during the wars. It is also possible to make a detour to the national necropolis where nearly 1,000 soldiers are buried. The end of the route at the Lion and the terrace offers an exceptional panorama of the city of Belfort and the Vosges mountains.
