For the Var Family Planning Authority, the challenge of reaching young people wherever they are

In the auditorium of the Porte d'Italie café-theater, around forty members, mostly women, gathered for the general meeting of the Var Family Planning Association (PFV). To energize the meeting, the association presented its activity report in video form. Like a news flash, each department reviewed the past year.
Continuity in actionsDuring 2024, the PFV continued and even expanded its operations to meet the increased demand. The medical team was significantly strengthened (doctor, midwife, medical secretary), and new clinics opened in Beausset, Sanary, Saint Cyr, and Six Fours, supplemented by online clinics.
1,385 people were received by marriage counselors in the Var region, including 300 minors, to discuss their emotional and sexual lives, as well as to confide in others about possible violence. More than 800 appointments were made with the sexual health center team, for requests for contraception, abortions, gynecological appointments, and screenings.
The number of students reached by the program has increased by 20% compared to 2023, reaching 3,200 middle and high school students. However, the association aims to reach young people wherever they are and visits local missions and youth justice institutions. It also targets a diverse audience with programs for people with disabilities and exiled women.
And something newThe year 2024 also brought new developments with the opening of a listening center for LGBTQIA+ people – lesbians, gays, bisexuals, queers, intersex, asexuals – and the hiring of a male marriage counselor, a first!
The results are promising, but the PFV still faces challenges. One of the major difficulties is territorial coverage. To address this, teleconsultations by appointment are currently being piloted. The association must also strengthen its team of volunteers to respond to all prevention requests.
The Var Family Planning Association is relying on an intergenerational team, supplemented by work-study students, interns, and community service workers, to ensure its long-term success. And on consistency, with the election of Danièle Dubois as Chair of the Board of Directors for a third term.
