The Legion of Honour's membership is experiencing a "worrying decline" that must be reversed by making it easier for citizens to submit their own applications, said its Grand Chancellor, General Lecointre.

According to him, there has been a "worrying reduction in the number of Legion of Honour members," particularly since Emmanuel Macron came to power in 2017, who believed that the awarding of this civic decoration had been misused.
