Couthures Journalism Festival: more than 200 events in three days under the trees

Couthures Journalism Festival: more than 200 events in three days under the trees

From Friday, July 11th to Sunday, July 13th, we will discuss the United States since Trump, the environment and, of course, the not always easy work of the press, in Gaza and elsewhere.

"Easy." This is the title of a famous song by Camélia Jordana , who was last year the patron of the "Le Monde" International Journalism Festival in Couthures-sur-Garonne (47). Easy, the organizers can also say, given the record number of festival-goers (9,100) beaten in 2024. They will therefore do without a patron for the 9th edition, on July 11, 12 and 13. Without changing a formula that works: debates, meetings, workshops, screenings, exhibitions, shows, or more than 200 events to explore current events.

The themes are notably political. A particular economic focus is placed on the United States, with the documentaries "America at War" ( Pierre Haski ) and "Operation Trump" ( Antoine Vitkine ), dealing with the world order turned upside down by the American election. There will also be discussion of the difficulties for journalists working in Gaza ("Between The Lines"), rural life, and the ravages of industrial fishing ("Oceans", by David Attenborough ).

Daily meetings of “Sud Ouest”

On Tuesday, July 8 (9 p.m.), at the "Le Plaza" cinema in Marmande, the festival will get a head start by showing the documentary "Nobody Understands Anything" about the Libyan financing of Nicolas Sarkozy's 2007 campaign. While one of the directors, Fabrice Arfi , will be at the festival, Edwy Plene , founder of "Mediapart," will be in Marmande.

Finally, "Sud Ouest ," a festival partner, invites festival-goers to a daily "Rendez-vous" (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.). On Friday the 11th, journalist César Compadre will have his guests discuss the theme: "Wine crisis: is the cooperative winery model in danger?" On Saturday the 12th, Carine Caussieu will welcome her colleagues from "Sud Ouest," Jean-Michel Desplos and Mathilde Curien, and criminal lawyer Éléa Cerdan, to discuss sources in legal matters. Because major cases don't only take place in Paris. Then, "How to eat well in rural areas?" will be the question posed on Sunday the 13th.
