Dissolution, Censorship... The French Are Divided Over the Future of the Government and the National Assembly, According to a Poll
Half of French people are in favor of dissolving the National Assembly in the coming months, according to an Ifop-Fiducial poll conducted for Sud Radio. A narrow majority (56%) favors adopting a motion of censure, which would overthrow François Bayrou's government.

As Emmanuel Macron regains his power of dissolution next week, half of French people want him to use it, while 56% want François Bayrou 's government to be overthrown by a motion of censure , according to an Ifop-Fiducial poll for Sud Radio.

Half of French people (50%) say they want the National Assembly to be dissolved and new legislative elections to be held in the coming months, nine points more than in June 2025. But only 34% believe Emmanuel Macron will implement this in the coming months.

Unsurprisingly, those who want the dissolution are in the majority among left-wing supporters (62%), including 72% among Insoumis supporters and 58% among socialist supporters. They are also 68% among Reconquête and RN supporters.

Conversely, only 43% of right-wing supporters are in favour, and only 29% of supporters of the presidential majority.

A majority (56%) also say they would like François Bayrou's government to be overthrown by a motion of censure, 13 points more than in January 2025.

LFI supporters (87%), like RN supporters (67%), are largely in favor, ahead of those of the Ecologists (60%) and the Socialist Party (56%). But only 35% of supporters of the Republicans and 18% of Renaissance supporters are in favor.

To everyone's surprise, Emmanuel Macron dissolved the National Assembly on June 9, 2024, the evening of European elections largely won by the far right. New elections a month later resulted in a fragmented parliament with no majority.

According to the Constitution, the head of state could not dissolve the Assembly a second time before a year.

Survey conducted by self-administered online questionnaire from July 2 to 3, with a sample of 1,000 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over, using the quota method. Margin of error between 1.4 and 3.1.
