Due to the lack of a maternity hospital in Saint-Raphaël, Mayor Frédéric Masquelier wants children born in Fréjus to be from Saint-Raphaël

Due to the lack of a maternity hospital in Saint-Raphaël, Mayor Frédéric Masquelier wants children born in Fréjus to be from Saint-Raphaël

Since the closure of the maternity ward in the commune of Raphaël for many years, no births have been recorded in the city of the archangel, "which has both administrative and symbolic consequences for the families concerned" , lamented Mayor Frédéric Masquelier in the preamble to the last municipal council meeting last Thursday, in a motion "to defend the values and identity of Raphaël".

The mayor then expressed the wish - he was followed by all the elected officials present - "that the legislation evolves, so that a child whose parents live in Saint-Raphaël, can be indicated as having been born in Saint-Raphaël" , despite the fact that he was born in the Emile-Bonnet intercommunal hospital, located in the commune of Fréjus. "This right to the declaration of birth in the commune of residence of the parents - and I am sure that the other communes of the agglomeration agree with this - is in line with several parliamentary initiatives already undertaken at the national level" , he concluded.
