The judicial investigation was opened at the public health division of the Paris judicial court in February 2025, following a complaint with civil action filed by Foodwatch against the companies Nestlé and Nestlé Waters.
The case of illicit treatments used for certain mineral waters was revealed by Le Monde and Radio France in 2024. Nestlé Waters (Vittel, Hépar, Perrier, Contrex, etc.) and major French water brands applied purification treatments similar to those used for tap water. 30 % of Nestlé group brands are said to use prohibited purification systems.
