MEP Marion Maréchal (formerly of Reconquête) and her husband Vincenzo Sofo were involved in a road accident this weekend on the roads of Calabria, Italy. "We saw death crashing down on us, but we were truly blessed to have come out alive and without serious injuries," wrote the member of the Fratelli d'Italia party and close friend of Giorgia Meloni on his Instagram account on Sunday.
The elected official's entourage told BFMTV that the couple had been hit head-on by another car, which had swerved to avoid an animal. They were hospitalized after the accident, which occurred on Saturday, and are currently under observation, according to the same source. "Don't worry: we're already working on getting back on our feet soon," said Vincenzo Sofo, sharing a photo of himself with Marion Maréchal.
