Limited timetables, reduced flights... New measures to reduce noise pollution at Cannes-Mandelieu Airport

As promised , Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot has presented a set of measures to significantly improve the quality of life for residents living near Cannes-Mandelieu International Airport. These measures aim to more strictly regulate air traffic, particularly during the summer months.
Between restricted schedules, reduced flights and increased monitoring, the draft decree will soon be submitted to the competent Commission for a vote. This is a response to the recurring requests from associations specializing in the issue of "limiting traffic" , such as ACDC Pays de Grasse, Adepte Nature, ADNA (Association for the Defense Against Air Pollution) at Cannes-Mandelieu Airport, and APEPG, which are also very committed to the subject .
Among the most significant: an extra hour of quiet in the morning, sanctuary summer weekends, with fewer flights and quieter planes.
Three flagship measures put to the voteRegarding light aviation, specific restrictions are proposed: runways would no longer be allowed before 9 a.m., compared to 8 a.m. currently; the summer restriction period would begin on June 1 (instead of the 15th); Saturday would be considered a quiet day, in the same way as a Sunday or public holiday.
These measures particularly target "non-locally based" devices and the noisiest training activities.
Particular attention will be paid to approaches by sea, with the establishment of a regular monitoring indicator transmitted to the Commission. The objective: to better distribute flight paths and avoid the concentration of nuisances in certain coastal areas.
Business aviation: impact study in sightAmong the measures not requiring an immediate vote, the minister confirmed to Nice-Matin the launch, in September, of an impact study dedicated to business aviation.
It will have to identify levers to reduce nuisances without harming the economic and tourist activity of the territory. The first measures could be implemented as early as next summer, after consultation.
Finally, the Minister confirmed the abandonment of the alternative North-West route , studied by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC). Deemed ineffective and generating new nuisances, it will not be implemented. This decision is in line with a course of action already adopted at other airports such as Nantes-Atlantique.
"These are concrete, proportionate and expected measures, which respond to the general interest while significantly improving the quality of life of residents," concluded the minister.
