This official announcement came a few days after the publication of an article in Le Canard enchainé . It claimed that Prime Minister François Bayrou was considering supporting an alleged wish of Pierre Moscovici , president of the Court of Auditors, to appoint her in exchange for an assurance that the president of the Socialist deputies, Boris Vallaud , husband of the former minister, would abandon the idea of censuring the government of the Budget in the autumn.
"Not a political appointment," she assures"What a joke!" Ms. Vallaud-Belkacem reacted in a message posted on X, specifying that she had used the route of a "competition."

On Thursday morning, on France Info, the President of the Court of Auditors, Pierre Moscovici, defended his appointment and said he was "shocked" by the attacks against the woman who had been his colleague in François Hollande's first governments.
"I'm not his friend, I was his colleague.""She arrived through a perfectly objective, perfectly collective professional recruitment process, and without my involvement in any way," said Pierre Moscovici. "So let's stop with the Republic of cronies and recognize from time to time that merit can be diverse," he continued, saying he was "very shocked by these comments."

"She went through a recruitment process. Let's call it a competitive examination. 150 candidates, 150 applications submitted for five senior advisor positions, 28 applications were interviewed by the integration committee, which I chair, but which includes six members who are completely independent and not appointed by me," he said.
"Now it's up to her to prove herself.""Of these 28, she was retained by the commission in all five (...) I left at the time of the deliberation. I did not want (to take part in the decision, editor's note) precisely because I had been her colleague, because I know her," he said, adding that he had "stepped aside for ethical reasons." "It is up to her to prove herself now. I welcome her to the Court of Auditors."
The announcement of his appointment was met with much sarcasm, particularly within the National Rally. National Rally MP Jean-Philippe Tanguy threatened on Wednesday to challenge the appointment in the Council of State, criticizing "the Republic of cronies and cronies."
