Water games, schoolyards... Participatory budget projects in Lyon 9th

For the second edition of the participatory budget in Lyon, 90 projects were selected, including eight in the 9th arrondissement. Lyon Capitale takes stock.
On June 18, the City of Lyon unveiled the winning projects of the second edition of the participatory budget. Of the 233 projects submitted for voting, 90 were selected and will be implemented by the City of Lyon in its nine arrondissements. Lyon Capitale provides an update on the selected projects, district by district. In the 5th arrondissement, eight projects were selected.
- Water games at the Duchère swimming pool
The largest participatory budget project for the 9th arrondissement aims to install water games for children at the Duchère swimming pool and received 328 votes. These " will allow families to enjoy aquatic activities and improve their familiarity with water from a very young age ," assures the City of Lyon. €180,000 was allocated by the municipality for the project.
- Sound and lighting equipment for community venues
€50,000 was then allocated to a project aimed at acquiring sound and lighting equipment, " which will be shared between the various associations and third places in Vaise and La Duchère to facilitate the organization of festive events open to all ," the municipality indicates.
" Many associations want to create social connections and bring life to their neighborhoods. By sharing equipment, this would allow us to offer a wider range of events and maintain regular festive and cultural gatherings ," said the author of the proposal, which received 327 votes.
- €80,000 for the Chapeau Rouge nursery school
€40,000 was allocated to the installation of blinds at the Chapeau Rouge nursery school, which was the winning proposal with over 440 votes. " The classrooms on the first and second floors are very exposed on the west side to the sun beating down on the windows. This situation affects 6 of the school's 7 classrooms. As soon as the weather is nice (usually May-June-July-September-October), the children and teachers quickly suffer from the heat ," explains the author of the proposal.

An additional €40,000 has been allocated to secure and enhance the schoolyard. The aim is to " transform the "small courtyard" of the Chapeau Rouge nursery school into a safe, pleasant, and environmentally friendly space for children. The proposed improvements include creating shade by adding vegetation and planting trees, replacing the current play structure, and installing modular wooden spaces ," the municipality said.
- €20,000 to redevelop the courtyards of the Grillons school
337 people voted to redesign the nursery school playgrounds at the Grillons school. €20,000 was allocated to the project, which includes " the complete refurbishment of the sandpit, the renovation of the ground surface, and the addition of play areas and trails on the ground to encourage imaginative play. "
The initial idea also called for the renovation of the school's facade, a project which was not retained.
The rest of the projects:
- A path of flagstones at the Sauvegarde Social Center for people with disabilities
- An educational panel on French sign language in front of the forecourt of the Vaise media library
- Re-equipment of the educational kitchen of the Social Safeguarding Center
