"AfD out of government? What Germany and Europe risk": the bombshell from the FdI top

Germany could turn right, but Chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz does not have the courage. The CDU leader, the day after the election victory, said clearly: "We have a clear mandate, we will build a grand coalition ." Whether it will be only with the SPD or whether it will also involve the Greens, remains to be seen.
Hence the not exactly optimistic forecast of Nicola Procaccini , MEP of Fratelli d'Italia and co-president of ECR , the Conservative group in the European Parliament. A privileged observer, in short, of the relations between the Popular Party (of which Merz is a member) and the right, even in its politically hardest version such as Alternative fur Deutschland led by Alice Weidel , also for this reason able to "photograph" Merz's strategy even before its official announcement.
"Paradoxically - the Melonian underlined regarding the CDU-AfD axis in an interview with Corriere della Sera - it is the most compatible alliance . We have many points of distance from AfD, but on the two most sensitive issues in Germany today - the revision of the Green Deal policies and immigration , as well as security which with the recent attacks has made the far right grow - there is no doubt that the two parties have a lot in common. Also because the current leader Merz is much more to the right than his predecessors, than Merkel , he represents the center-right vision of my friend Weber , of the EPP - continues Procaccini -. And indeed we are very happy for him".

"In all likelihood we will move towards an alliance with the SPD and perhaps even with the Greens . And the crucial issues - immigration, Green Deal - will be more difficult to address, with the risk of instability that concerns the entire continent", concludes his reasoning Procaccini, prophetic. This is why the vote in Germany "will not solve the problem of German instability": the Grand Coalition that is emerging "sees opposing political thrusts" on the crucial issues.

According to the FdI representative, it is "impossible to dialogue with AfD" not so much on the position of personal rights , "on which they are very open, but on the international positioning . I am against any type of ' cordon sanitaire ', but in the debate on Navalny in the European Parliament I heard them say unacceptable, unthinkable things, an exaltation of the current Putin that does not allow us to take paths together".
Ukraine itself will be a decisive factor in identifying any path of government in Berlin. In this sense, Procaccini reiterates the words pronounced by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her speech at CPAC , the summit of American conservatives in Washington: "The three years of strenuous struggle of the Ukrainian people to continue to exist as a free and independent nation, tell us that love for one's homeland is still an essential value. As it is for us conservatives at every latitude. We hope with all our hearts that the peace efforts will soon be successful, but we will continue to support the Ukrainians for as long as it is necessary".
