Banks' profits in 3 years at high interest rates reached 112 billion euros.

Fabi's analysis: Net income expected to reach €46.5 billion in 2024
In 2024, Italian banks recorded a new record in terms of net profit , with a total of 46.5 billion euros, an increase of 5.7 billion (+14%) compared to 2023. This is what emerges from research by Fabi , the autonomous federation of Italian banking institutions.
This result brings the total profits achieved in the three-year period 2022-2024 to over €112 billion, highlighting an exceptional three-year period for banking profitability , supported by an extraordinarily favorable monetary environment, namely the high interest rates set by the European Central Bank. Thanks to the valuable resource of interest rates, credit accounts for nearly 60% of profits and remains the driving force of banks' business, but commissions are rising.
"The record numbers achieved by Italian banks in recent years didn't just fall from the sky. They're the result of the daily work of hundreds of thousands of workers," says Fabi Secretary General Lando Maria Sileoni. "Without their commitment," he adds, "those healthy balance sheets would not have been possible. It's also in this light that the €435 average monthly salary guaranteed by the national collective bargaining agreement signed in 2023 should be viewed, as should the financial compensation for managers."
