Three cases of serious speeding violations have been recorded in the Canton of Ticino . The cantonal police announced the news today. The first case dates back to May 17th when, shortly before 8:30 p.m. on the A2 southbound in the Balerna area, a vehicle was caught traveling at a speed of 193 kilometers per hour where the speed limit is 100. Investigations by the cantonal police have allowed the identity of the driver to be traced. He is a 46-year-old Italian citizen, resident in Italy.

A second case was detected on July 2, shortly before 5 pm on via Riva Cantonetto in the Gentilino area, where a 22-year-old Swiss man from Lugano was intercepted. The young man was riding a motorcycle at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour where the limit is 50. A third case was detected on July 4, shortly before 4 am in the Airolo area. A 26-year-old Swiss man living in the Lugano area was intercepted while he was riding on via San Gottardo in the direction of the Pass at a speed of 118 kilometers per hour where the limit is 50.

The three drivers were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office as hit-and-run drivers for serious violations of the Federal Road Traffic Act. The 46-year-old was banned from driving in Switzerland, while the 22-year-old and 26-year-old had their driving licenses confiscated.
