Luino - Luino orthopedics relies on freelance specialists and trainees to increase its activity - - Varese News

Three of the four new announced freelance orthopedic surgeons have entered service in Luino.

Specifically, of the four incoming orthopedic surgeons , two, Dr. Marco Calamita and Dr. Gary Gambassi, are from Milan . Dr. Calamita, in particular, also specializes in hand microsurgery . Then there is Dr. Pietro Bica, arriving from Palermo and starting work on Saturday, July 19th, and Dr. Alessandro Paladini Molgora, previously an orthopedic surgeon in Angera, who is retired and available for 18 hours a week at the Confalonieri.

The four orthopedic surgeons join the head physician Massimo Masola, the two specialists already working in Luino as freelancers, and the three specialists from the Gaetano Pini Institute who are continuing their training by supporting the Luino facility.

The department, therefore, can only count on freelance or trainee staff from Milan (and not from Insubria) coordinated by the only permanent staff member, the head physician.

"The entry into service of these reinforcements offers us the opportunity to reorganize the orthopedic care of Alto Verbano," explains Dr. Anna Iadini, medical director of the regional facilities, "strengthening all areas of care, from surgery to outpatient care, with the realistic goal of implementing a week-surgery program in the medium term, thus also restoring orthopedic hospitalization. To this end, together with Dr. Masola, we are drafting a plan that outlines the steps needed to achieve this goal, which is very important to us."

While waiting for week surgery to be implemented, the ongoing evolution, which should be implemented as early as September, would bring the surgical program from two weekly operating sessions, one of which will be BIC (Low Intensity Surgery), to two Day Surgery sessions, a prerequisite for the transition to resuming operations under the standard hospitalization regime.
