Netflix used AI in this series: who noticed?

Netflix has also started using AI for one of its series. The platform acknowledges that this has really helped the team. And given the effectiveness of this technology, it's not hard to understand why.

Today, discovering a company using artificial intelligence is no longer a surprise. It must be said that this technology is becoming increasingly widespread, across almost every sector. Even Netflix has joined the ranks of those convinced of the usefulness of AI. The streaming platform has already integrated it into one of its series. It admits that this decision was a real success.

Netflix uses AI in a TV series for the first time

Netflix has decided to use AI for the first time in The Eternaut . For those unfamiliar, it's a science fiction drama series made in Argentina. The story is based on a famous comic book by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López. The series premiered on Netflix in April. And for this project, the platform has used artificial intelligence.

When you hear that Netflix used AI in this series, you might think it's all fake. But that's not the case! What we saw was the result of real footage. The only scene affected by AI is the collapse of a building in Buenos Aires, in one episode.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, said the result was astonishing. First of all, the result is extremely realistic, so much so that no one realized it wasn't actually staged. Furthermore, Sarandos said the team saved a lot of time. In fact, generating this sequence with AI was ten times faster than with traditional special effects.

AI in a Netflix series, it won't be the last time

It was a major first for Netflix to integrate AI-generated images into a series. And it certainly won't be the last. Sarandos revealed future plans and explained how the company intends to use this technology in the future.

The announcement comes immediately after Netflix released its excellent second-quarter results. According to him, AI improves the quality of Netflix movies and series.

We remain convinced that AI represents an incredible opportunity to help creators make better, not just cheaper, films and series , Sarandos told financial analysts via The Hollywood Reporter.

AI scores another victory. And this raises many concerns about its impact on our professions . Because if it's faster, more efficient, and inevitably less expensive, companies won't let it slip away, right?
