Poker at Monza, Roma back in the running for Europe

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Roma beat Monza 4-0, achieving their tenth consecutive positive result in Serie A and officially entering the race for a place in Europe. At the Olimpico, in fact, the Giallorossi played a mature team match, obtaining a victory that was never in doubt and moving to -2 from sixth-place Fiorentina, while waiting to find out the outcome of the recovery match between Bologna and Milan, currently just one point apart. Compared to the predictions of the day before, Ranieri opted for a more limited turnover, reintroducing Hummels at the center of defense with Mancini and N'Dicka on the sides. In midfield, Pisilli is alongside Cristante, while Baldanzi and Soulè are in support of Shomurodov. Nesta, on the other hand, confirmed the starting lineup seen against Lecce, apart from Lekovic and Brorsson in place of D'Ambrosio (injured) and Izzo (suspended). Roma took to the field with a good attitude, moving the ball well and creating the first goal opportunity in the 5th minute with Soulè's backward pass to Pisilli, who with the goalkeeper completely open fired it out. The lead came in the 10th minute, and it was an invention of Saelemaekers: the Belgian faked the cross and sent Kyriakopoulos off balance, moved to the center and unleashed a curling shot with his left foot that Turati couldn't catch. The Giallorossi were in complete control of the game and found the second goal in the 32nd minute: Soulè once again looked for space and found Shomurodov in the center of the area who headed it home. At the end of the first half, Bianco, surely the best of his team, found the pass to Ganvoula, whose cross shot was destined for the bottom corner but was met with a great reflex by Svilar. In the second half, the script did not change: Roma controlled the ball without any problems, while Monza, decimated by numerous absences (with Carboni added during the match), did not have the strength to react. So, in the 73rd minute, the icing on the cake arrived: Hummels pushed beyond the halfway line and served Cristante, who saw Angelino free, who, from the left edge of the area, unleashed his specialty, a left-footed shot from the outside that went in at the far post. The game was definitively closed by Cristante's poker headed in from a corner kicked by Dybala. With this further defeat, Monza slipped to -9 from the fourth-last place and saw their goal of salvation become even more complicated. On the next matchday, Roma will challenge Como, the last team capable of beating the Giallorossi in the championship, while Monza will face Torino. – Ipa Agency photo –
