Following numerous protests raised by residents of the Vara Valley and the mayors of the surrounding municipalities, and especially after the mayors' unproductive meeting with Acam Acque , the center-left group in the Provincial Council has presented a motion urging the Province to take decisive action in the case of water bills inflated by arbitrary estimates.
The lawsuit requests that the utility company Acam Iren suspend collection of overestimated bills already issued, which it deems inadequate because they are not based on actual consumption or historical data for individual users, as required by law. In recent months, many customers in the municipalities of Val di Vara and beyond have received bills with anomalous amounts, calculated based on estimates deemed excessive and unrelated to past consumption. "With the motion presented," explains group leader Gianluca Tinfena, "we are calling for a clear stance from the entire Provincial Council, reinforcing the positions expressed by the mayors and President Peracchini himself. This calls for the suspension of enforcement and collection of overestimated bills already sent to the affected municipalities, and for the activation of a special plan for accurate meter reading, to be completed within 90 days, in order to correct the estimated amounts. We are also calling for the adoption of an operational protocol between the authorities and Acam Iren that includes the identification of users with self-reading difficulties, the obligation for the utility to use verifiable historical data in the event of an estimate, and effective oversight of the companies responsible for meter reading." The group emphasizes that the motion "sends a clear political and institutional signal in support of the mayors of the Vara Valley, who have been voicing their discontent for weeks."
