Tragedy in Barano: Young motorcyclist involved in Starza accident dies

MF, the young motorcyclist involved in the tragic accident that occurred this afternoon, Saturday, July 19, in the Starza area, died. The 30-year-old, a resident of the island, died shortly after arriving at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples, where he had been urgently transferred in critical condition following initial surgery at the Rizzoli Hospital in Lacco Ameno.
According to an initial reconstruction, the boy was driving the Honda Hornet when, along the road from Piedimonte to Maronti, he suddenly encountered an elderly pedestrian in the middle of the road, who had come out of a side street. In an attempt to avoid him, he swerved sharply, losing control of the vehicle and violently impacting a low wall.
The injuries he sustained immediately appeared to be extremely serious. Emergency hospitalized at Rizzoli Hospital, the patient underwent surgery by the surgical team composed of Doctors Loffredo, Campione, and Cornacchia. Doctors stopped a hepatic hemorrhage and removed the right kidney, which had been damaged by the trauma. Of greatest concern, however, was the extensive cerebral hemorrhage, combined with pulmonary contusions and an overall unstable clinical condition. Resuscitation was managed by Doctors Tommaselli, Striano, and Verde.
In the early afternoon, the decision was made to urgently transfer the 30-year-old to the Ospedale del Mare in Naples, where he arrived in critical condition. Despite the doctors' desperate efforts, his heart stopped beating.
A tragedy that casts a heavy shadow over a summer Saturday and reopens the debate on road safety in the island's suburban areas, too often lacking adequate controls and infrastructure.
