Forestry Cluster FVG, Legno Servizi shareholders' meeting: European obligations weigh on companies

The Legno Servizi shareholders' meeting approved the 2024 financial statement and took stock of the activities and projects implemented, outlining the future objectives of the forest-wood-furniture supply chain of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
THE CHALLENGE OF EUROPEAN COMPLIANCE
“Legno Servizi has completed its reorganization: from a forestry lot management company to a company serving the forestry system, in response to the real needs of sector operators, in synergy with regional strategic visions”, is the comment of President Mirco Cigliani. “The fact that the forestry world is at the center of Legno Servizi – observes the director of the Legno Arredo Fvg Cluster, Carlo Piemonte – is demonstrated by the many initiatives carried out in 2024 which, in addition to having had a positive impact on the territory, have brought profits back to the company”. The FVG Forestry Cluster boasts a young and well-established structure, based in Udine, to which an office in the mountain area will soon be added. Among the projects implemented in 2024, the value of group certification of forestry companies stands out "which in 2025 we intend to strengthen - continues Cigliani - to respond to the great challenges linked to European standards (EUTR and the next EUDR) that companies are called upon to meet. Legno Servizi and the Forestry Cluster will continue to support companies that are burdened, with great difficulty especially for micro and small ones, by European obligations that risk compromising the system itself. But by working as a group - reassures the president of Legno Servizi - we will be able to manage these tasks".
ACTIVITIES 2024
Among the key actions of 2024 dedicated to the development and monitoring of the regional forest-wood supply chain, we highlight the creation of the Legno FVG portal, the publication of the report on the monitoring data of the supply chain, the development of forest ecosystem services, the achievement of the double certification for the Fusine Forest owned by the region (certified in 2025), the definition of the CESFAM communication plan, the inauguration of the “Foresta in città” project in Udine, the event “Foresta in Valle 2024”, scheduled this year for 25 and 26 May, the AUSF Italia workshop in October. In the area of promotion and dissemination, projects such as the creation and dissemination of the volume “Io sono Legno FVG” were carried out, the exhibition itinerary dedicated to the forest-wood-furniture supply chain at Torre Santa Maria in Udine, in collaboration with the Archimede Domenico Taverna association. The company participated in the international wood fair in Klagenfurt, held in August. As part of the “BOB – Il Bosco nel Borgo” project, we remember the Tree Day, last November, and the “Create your own wooden bear” workshop organized as part of the “Borghi e Presepi” event in Sutrio, while among the activities there is the PEFC GFS certification for the private group, finalized in 2025.
PROJECT 2025
As for future projects, in 2025 the company will always be involved in development and monitoring activities of the regional forest-wood supply chain, certifications, seminars, conferences, dissemination events, promotion of contributions within the scope of promotional activities. Also for 2025, the initiatives related to “BOB – Il Bosco nel Borgo” will continue. Among the European projects, some of which have already started, the Interreg Italy-Austria “La via del legno”, a cross-border thematic route between the Municipalities of Hermagor and Pontebba which includes the recovery of the former Pontebba sawmill, to be used as a sustainable dissemination structure to promote environmental education and experiential tourism; the Interreg Italy-Croatia “Tofola”, focused on the development of sustainable tourism products linked to the historic shipbuilding industry of the Serenissima, with the aim of diversifying the offer in the Upper Adriatic area by promoting little-known territories, also supporting the reconstruction of traditional boats through short supply chains, with wood supply from historic forests in Veneto, FVG and Istria; the Interreg Italy-Slovenia “Woodinnovate” project, which promotes wood damaged by bark beetles or extreme weather events, an initiative that aims to create a resilient “model forest” using even lower-quality wood to create prototypes of street furniture and objects.
