Intesa Innovation startup | ESG News

Turin's innovation ecosystem continues to grow, bucking the trend of other European cities. This is according to the latest Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2025 (GSER 2025), produced by Startup Genome , the world's leading organization for the development of innovation ecosystems, a partner of governments and businesses in over 60 countries. The GSER, now in its thirteenth edition, analyzes 5 million innovative companies and over 350 ecosystems worldwide, offering a comprehensive overview of startups, trends, and technologies. This year, Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo , and Startup Genome have collaborated once again to analyze and highlight Turin's entrepreneurial ecosystem in the report.

Among European cities, Turin's innovation ecosystem experienced the greatest growth in 2024, rising to the top 80 globally from 81-90 to 71-80. The Piedmontese capital is also among the Top 35 European Ecosystem Performance rankings , a ranking created by evaluating the size and performance of an ecosystem based on the value accumulated by tech startups through exits and funding. In a European context marked by a general contraction, Turin stands out, recording a 19% increase in Ecosystem Value . The city is rapidly consolidating its role as an emerging innovation hub, particularly in the Smart City, AI & Big Data, and Space-tech sectors.

“Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center has helped transform Turin into an internationally recognized innovation ecosystem and strengthen competitiveness at a local and global level, attracting startups, stimulating sustainable growth and the search for high-impact solutions to global challenges,” said Paola Angeletti, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of Intesa Sanpaolo and President of Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center.

The recognition as European Capital of Innovation 2024–2025 , the establishment of the national AI4I center, the organization of the Italian Tech Week and the presence of the Galaxia – National Aerospace Technology Transfer Hub technology hub also supported by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, Neva SGR and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo to bring the most revolutionary innovations in the Space Economy to the global market, have supported and continue to support the consolidation of the ecosystem.

The Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, which have always been among the most important players in Turin's innovation ecosystem, have played a crucial role. Thanks to their initiatives, synergistic collaboration, and joint work with public bodies, primarily the City of Turin, local businesses, and the CRT Foundation, Turin has been recognized as the European Capital of Innovation and has attracted international organizations such as Techstars , one of the world's leading startup accelerators.

“Turin's recognition as European Capital of Innovation by the European Commission and its 56-place climb in the Startup Genome global ranking over the last five years testify to the effectiveness of the courageous efforts made by local ecosystem developers, including our Foundation, with the aim of placing Turin on the global map of innovation ecosystems,” said Marco Gilli , President of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.
