M5s opens to Russian gas, split with PD and AVS

Russia divides the opposition. In the Chamber, the groups of PD, AVS and M5S not only each presented their own resolution on international crises - especially those in the Middle East and Ukraine - but clashed over a passage in the M5S resolution, which asked not to exclude "a priori and pro futuro a possible collaboration with Russia" on gas supplies, in the event that the war with Iran determines a restriction on imports. A few lines that immediately made the broad field vibrate. PD and AVS decided that they would not vote for that passage. "I find it unacceptable", wrote on social media the senator of the PD Filippo Sensi. And immediately after, the secretary of Azione, Carlo Calenda: that of the M5S is a "shameful resolution, the PD must take note that there cannot be" an alliance with those who, on Russia, "have an identical line to that of Salvini". For the Democratic Party, another request from the M5S was also unacceptable, that of "immediately interrupting the supply of armaments to the Ukrainian government authorities". In the Democratic Party resolution, however, the need to "continue to guarantee full support and solidarity to the Ukrainian people and institutions" was underlined. A position also reiterated by Secretary Elly Schlein, in the voting declarations in the Chamber. In short, the issue of weapons to Ukraine, which has always been a source of friction within the broad camp - Avs, like the M5S, is for stopping the shipment - is joined by the "new" issue of Russian gas. The aim of any collaboration, the M5S wrote in the resolution, is "to guarantee the containment of electricity and natural gas prices" and to enable the European Union "to adapt to the changing scenarios of the global geopolitical framework, without tying itself to specific energy sources in an almost monopolistic manner".
