Square Enix Cancels Development of New Kingdom Hearts

Square Enix Cancels Development of New Kingdom Hearts

The software house announces the definitive cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the GPS-based mobile title scheduled for 2024, after a period of testing and prolonged delays, while confirming the continuation of the development of Kingdom Hearts IV

Square Enix has officially announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action RPG intended for iOS and Android platforms. The project, initially announced in April 2022 and scheduled for release in 2024, underwent a prototype testing phase that closed in January 2023. However, following a delay announced in November 2024 without a new release date, the Japanese company has decided to permanently cease work on the title.

In an official statement, the development team expressed regret for the decision, emphasizing that, despite the efforts made to create a quality product, the conditions to guarantee a sustainable and satisfying experience in the long term did not exist. Square Enix also thanked the users who participated in the various beta testing sessions and who supported the project during its development path.

The discontinuation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link does not represent a setback for the series, however. The company has confirmed that work on Kingdom Hearts IV for the main platforms is actively continuing, reaffirming its commitment to continuing the historic saga. More updates on the new chapter will be shared in the future.
