The summer exhibitions, from Cattelan to Modigliani and Berruti

(by Marzia Apice) There are many exhibitions to visit during the summer, with proposals that promise to please different audiences, from reflections on the passing of time Maurizio Cattelan to the immortal art of Amedeo Modigliani, up to to the shots of the photographers Bagnoli, Majoli and Pellegrin dedicated to the changing face of Rome during the Jubilee. BERGAMO - Maurizio Cattelan protagonist at Gamec until October 26th with the exhibition "Seasons", an invitation to reflect on the becoming of time, but also an exhortation to live reality in its complexity and drama through art. The The exhibition itinerary winds through four locations and presents the I publish five works: Palazzo della Ragione welcomes November (2023); at the Gamec are exhibited Empire (2025), and No (2021); the sculpture Bones (2025) is set up in the nearby Ex Oratorio di San Wolf, while the site-specific installation One (2025) stands in the historic Rotonda dei Mille, in the heart of Lower Bergamo. ROME - The Capital as a living body, which moves and transforms, during the Jubilee desired by Pope Francis: to Vittoriano until September 28th there is "Open City 2025. Rome in the Jubilee Year", an exhibition presenting the works photographs by Diana Bagnoli, Alex Majoli and Paolo Pellegrin, conceived by Edith Gabrielli and curated by Roberto Koch and Alessandra Mauro. The itinerary is made up of Majoli's images, dedicated to the "dramatic scene" of the Jubilee; the faces of the faithful are instead captured by the gaze of Paolo Pellegrin who creates also a personal "journey inside Rome", while Diana Bagnoli offers his colorful visions of a widespread mysticism and itinerant. MILAN - The Pac Pavilion of Contemporary Art hosts "I Only Want You To Love Me", the first anthology dedicated to Lovett/Codagnone, an artist duo formed in 1995 and composed of by John Lovett (Allentown, Pennsylvania, 1962) and Alessandro Codagnone (Milan, 1967 - New Jersey, 2019). The exhibition, curated by Diego Sileo, brings together some early photographic works and video, along with more recent sculptural installations and billboards, as well as an unpublished neon work, produced specifically for the exhibition. From the world of childhood to adults existential themes, between monumental sculptures, installations, video and a real carousel to ride on: it arrives at The first major exhibition of Valerio at the Royal Palace on July 22nd Berruti, entitled "More than Kids". Produced and organized by Palazzo Reale and Arthemisia, in collaboration with Piuma and the supported by the Ferrero Foundation, and curated by Nicolas Ballario, the exhibition is a journey into poetics of the artist through key works of his production - like the large carousel sculpture with music specially made by Ludovico Einaudi "Nina's Carousel" - and works completely new. PERUGIA - Until September 15th it returns to the National Gallery of Umbria the appointment of the series "A masterpiece in Perugia", this time dedicated to the Nu couché (1917-1918) by Amedeo Modigliani, from the Permanent Collection of the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin. The artistic parable in the project of Modigliani will be told through a precious core of 8 works, compared with some works of ancient art, European and non-European. MATERA - "Dadamaino. Signs, writings, spaces", edited by Flaminio Gualdoni, is scheduled from July 5th to October 5th at Museum of Contemporary Sculpture of Matera. On display a significant selection of works created by the artist between the 1975 and 1996 alongside some unpublished ceramic works made in Matera in the Seventies. AOSTA - At the Saint-Bénin Centre from 19 July to 9 November the exhibition "Brassaï. The eye of Paris", curated by Philippe Ribeyrolles. The retrospective presents more than 150 prints period, as well as sculptures, documents and objects belonging to the photographer, for an in-depth and original look at the work of Brassaï, with particular attention to the famous images dedicated to the French capital and its life. FABRIANO (AN) - Until October 19th at Zona Conce the exhibition "Passages Mario Giacomelli Simone Massi" curated by Gianluigi Colin and Galliano Crinella: an unprecedented comparison between the famous photographer and Simone Massi illustrator, author, director and teacher of animation, both from the Marche. Organized on the occasion of the centenary of Giacomelli's birth, the exhibition presents 35 images by the photographer and as many drawings by Massi in dialogue between two forms of creativity linked to the image in movement. FLORENCE - The first solo exhibition in Florence is entitled "Siamo Natura" an Italian institution of the American artist and environmentalist Haley Mellin, curated by Sergio Risaliti and Stefania Rispoli, in program at the Museo Novecento until October 29. The exhibition underlines the artist's commitment to direct documentation of protected landscapes, through small format paintings made outdoors, working seasonally in studios outside and reducing emissions by renouncing electricity, heating and cooling.
