10 days without service: the Tigre branch of the Mitre train will resume operation on March 5

The Tigre branch of the Mitre train line stopped operating last Saturday, February 22, and will remain paralyzed until Tuesday, March 4 (Carnival weekend) . It will resume normal operation on Wednesday, March 5 . In turn, the Bartolomé Mitre and José León Suárez branches will operate with limited service to Belgrano R, without reaching Retiro during the same period.
The company Trenes Argentinos explained in a statement that the service interruption is due to “the need to carry out essential work to renew the tracks and signaling that are in poor condition and require intervention.”
Renovation works on the Mitre train Tigre branch: 10 days of interruption since February 22
“The work, which is already being carried out with preliminary works, has an estimated deadline of 24 months, but begins with an intensive intervention during these first 10 days in order to act in the areas with the greatest operational problems. In this way, it is expected to be able to continue the service with better levels of operational safety,” the statement added.
The work to be carried out during these 10 days of service interruption consists of changing rails, sleepers and fasteners, replacing ballast stone and adjusting the geometry of the track using heavy machinery.
Work will be carried out on the section from San Fernando to Tigre and in the Olivos and La Lucila stations, where the power lines and drainage system will be completely renovated. Work will also be carried out on the Corrientes level crossing in Olivos.
The company clarified that, after these 10 days, "work will continue during the night in order to be able to advance the rest of the line without interfering with the service."
Over the course of two years of work, 40 kilometres of tracks will be renovated between Empalme Maldonado and Tigre, including level crossings and signalling.
