Dafne Cejas: The top model reveals her favorite designers and shares style secrets.
Dafne Cejas is a model, but she's also much more. Born in Córdoba, she settled years ago between Paris and New York, where she walked for some of the world's most important brands. She has a timeless beauty and an artistic sensibility that led her to immerse herself in the art world. Today, in addition to modeling, she works as a curator, a producer, and is part of Barrakesh, a space that combines art, design, and social life in Buenos Aires. We chatted with her to learn a little about her world: from what inspires her to the everyday details that define her style.
You never leave your house without...
Wallet and sunglasses. They go everywhere with me.
A favorite designer?
Marcelo Giacobbe, Javier Saiach, and Evangelina Bomparola. All three are magnificent.
The last thing you bought
A beige wool blazer and black suede boots with low heels.
The most controversial thing you used?
A long Versace dress with a yellow leopard print at a wedding. A lot.
Do you collect anything?
I have several kimonos; I brought one back from my recent trip to Japan. I like to buy clothes from each place; I go treasure hunting or go to markets. I also have a lot of high heels, stilettos, and gorgeous sandals that I wear once for something and that's it.
Do you shop online or in person?
Both. I like going to see clothes in person, but I get overwhelmed trying them on, waiting for service, or if there are a lot of people. This may be because I've tried on different things so many times. I also know what I like and what I don't, so online shopping is quick. I don't have to go back and forth.
A trend that never goes out of style?
Having fun with the possibility that fashion gives us to create a character with the look.
The most chic fictional character?
Cate Blanchett in films like Carol and Blue Jasmine . In every shot, she's elegant in her way of moving and gesturing. Not to mention every red carpet look or the photos the paparazzi take of her on the street.
That piece of clothing you can't let go...
A green military bomber jacket. I look at it and think it's already worn in and getting even cuter. It makes any quick outfit.
What things can't be missing from your suitcase?
Many kilos of clothing that I end up not using. For example, I always pack a lot of shoes and then never wear them. Another item that always travels is a nice blue or black blazer.
A place in the world?
Paris.
A color you never use
Pink. I really like it, but it doesn't suit me. I'm quite pale and have brown hair: it doesn't suit me.
The most elegant woman in Argentina?
Juliana Awada. She's casual and fresh, and I see many women inspired by her look, complete with a jacket over her shoulders and a purse in her hand.
Any piece of advice that has left its mark on you?
“Walk feeling what you have on.”
If you could choose a style from another decade, which would you choose?
The 1960s and 1970s. I really like Jane Birkin with her basket and dress, showing off a carefree look on the Cannes red carpet. Also, Brigitte Bardot with her berets, riding boots, and leather trench coat.
Anyone in fashion you'd like to have dinner with?
John Galliano. I feel like I could ask him so many questions about his creative universe...
Your favorite outfit?
I like suits, pants and jackets, but also a super dress.
A garment that reminds you of a happy moment?
A black jumpsuit from Mishka. It reminds me of a lovely moment with my dad, at a graduation ceremony I went with him to. He was sick and refused to pick up his diploma, so my mom, brother, and I made him go, and I wore that jumpsuit.
Anything you can't believe you used?
A Dior Couture dress in an editorial for Vogue Italia from an iconic John Galliano collection, Spring 2010.
A must-have accessory?
Chains with charms or amulets. They're protective, but I don't have them, and I feel like I'm missing something.
Anyone who inspires you?
Iris Apfel, that super-long-lived influencer who filled everything with color and eccentricity with her boho chic looks.
Have you ever followed a trend that embarrasses you today?
I fell for the charms of UGGS boots and their comfort. I once wore them to my agency in New York, and my manager gave me a Miranda Priestly look in The Devil Wears Prada and warned me not to even think about going to a casting like that. I confess I still have them and wear them in the winter.
