Elderly man dies in downtown Torreón

Elderly person dies of natural causes in the downtown area At 7:26 a.m. on Friday, Torreón Police officers from the downtown area responded to the intersection of Matamoros and Múzquiz streets in response to a report of an unresponsive person lying outside the entrance of a warehouse.

The officers, who are trained in first aid, examined the woman and found that she no longer had vital signs; however, they requested assistance from Red Cross paramedics to verify the situation, and the paramedics confirmed that the woman had died.

The officers coordinated the area and awaited the arrival of the Laguna delegation, a team from the State Attorney General's Office, comprised of members of the Criminal Investigation Agency, personnel from the Forensic Services Unit, and the investigating officer from the Public Ministry.

At that moment, a woman named Verónica, who identified herself as a friend of the victim, explained that her friend was Rosalía González Martínez, 75 years old, who was homeless and was originally from Gómez Palacio, Durango, with her last known address in the El Consuelo neighborhood.

Veronica also stated that, as far as she knew, Rosalía was not suffering from any illness and that she worked at a food establishment located on Matamoros Avenue. She added that Rosalía said she would take a break, but shortly after lying down to sleep, she did not wake up.

Personnel from the Garrido Funeral Home arrived at the scene, acting on instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office, to transport the woman's body to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) facilities for the necessary autopsy to determine the formal cause of death. The body will then be returned to the family for funeral services.
