Foreigner destroys cafeteria in Merida; threatens employee for loud music

MÉRIDA.- “I demand respect!” a foreigner demanded as he caused several damages in a cafeteria in downtown Mérida , and even threatened the worker, allegedly because the music was too loud.
The incident was reported by the cafeteria employee herself, who shared videos of the attack in which the man can be seen behaving violently by breaking several things inside the establishment.
Social media users reported that the incident occurred at a cafe on 73rd Street between 62nd and 64th in the downtown San Juan neighborhood .
Through social media, citizen Ruth Medina reported having been the victim of verbal aggression, intimidation and death threats by a foreigner at her workplace, a coffee shop in Mérida.
According to her complaint, the whole incident began minutes before 7 a.m. yesterday Tuesday, when the man – whom she identified as a guest at the Airbnb next door – “came in exclusively to ask me to turn down the music.”
Ruth pointed out that the music was not at a high volume, however, she apologized for the inconvenience and lowered the volume.
Despite this, the subject began to get excited, which she assumes was due to the fact that she was alone in the cafeteria.
“He started to get upset, I tried to apologize and calm the situation but it was no use because he continued to get upset.”
It was at that moment that the subject would have opted for threats and attempts at intimidation.
“He started threatening that he would burn down the cafe when there were people there, and that if we didn’t let him play music, he would come back with a knife to break everything in the art gallery and the cafe.”
The man, allegedly from Spain , “continued to get excited and started throwing things and breaking them near where I was to intimidate me and scare me.”
“He blocked my exit from the bar so I couldn't leave […] he continued to threaten me that if I called the police he knew people who could kill me so it was better for me to keep quiet and not say anything,” the young woman from Mérida reported.
In the video , the barista is seen frightened by the man's actions , which end when another woman arrives, alerted by the noises inside the establishment.
“Luckily, a client came in because she heard the screams and he noticed her presence and told me that she had been warned […] he went on to tell the client “'nothing happened here'”.
The young woman identifies the aggressor as JSM in her complaint, an activist of Catalan origin (Spain), “he is a representative of Catalan culture in Yucatan.”
“She has appeared on radio shows and won various awards for her activism,” the employee said.
"I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME, I HOLD JOAN SERRA MONTAGUT COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE. HE IS A TOTALLY DANGEROUS AND UNSTABLE MAN WHO WORKS WITH WOMEN AND CHILDREN," she wrote.
He also added a third video in which the worker's bosses, along with a police unit, go to the house where the subject is staying.
The man admits that he works with women, but when he realized that the woman present was recording him with her cell phone, he aggressively tried to take it from her, which was also recorded on video.
Social media users identified his Facebook profile, however, at the time of publishing this note it had already been deleted.
After the young worker's complaint went viral, social media users expressed their anger and indignation at the events that occurred in Mérida.
“ Expelled by unwelcome persons ”
“Poor barista, she was obviously very distressed… now more than anything we must stop praising and covering up for the “tourist” just for the socio-economic benefits that he may leave; both the state government and society itself must act ”
Some Internet users questioned whether the foreign citizen had been under the influence of any illicit substance, which, as far as we know, was not the case.
At this time, there is no information about an arrest or other legal action against the subject for the verbal aggression against the barista or the damage caused to the cafeteria in downtown Mérida.
