Johnson Canyon Attack: Man Executed, Wife Wounded

A direct armed attack claimed the life of a man and left his wife seriously injured Friday night in Tijuana. The couple was inside their vehicle in the Cañón Johnson neighborhood when they were surprised by gunmen, who opened fire and then fled.
The spiral of violence in Tijuana continues unabated. On the night of Friday, July 11, a direct armed attack left one man dead and one woman injured in the Cañón Johnson neighborhood, an area that has been a frequent scene of crime. The savage crime mobilized emergency and security forces and has once again highlighted the critical situation in the border city.
According to preliminary reports, the couple was in a parked vehicle on one of the streets in the aforementioned neighborhood. It was at that moment that armed individuals intercepted them and, without saying a word, fired repeatedly at the car, concentrating their fire on the driver's side.
After the blast, the attackers fled the scene in an unknown direction. Neighbors in the area, alerted by the explosions, notified authorities by calling 911.
Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed that the man, who had been shot multiple times, was no longer showing vital signs. His wife, who was riding in the passenger seat, suffered serious injuries and was stabilized at the scene and rushed to a hospital for medical attention. Her condition is reported as critical.
Tijuana Municipal Police officers were the first to respond, securing the perimeter to preserve the crime scene. Agents from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and Forensic Services personnel subsequently arrived on the scene to begin the corresponding investigation.
Multiple spent shell casings were recovered at the scene and will be analyzed as part of the investigation. The main line of investigation points to a direct attack related to organized crime activities, although the exact motive for the murder has not yet been determined.
This homicide adds to the long list of violent incidents that have shaken Tijuana in recent days and weeks. In the last 24 to 48 hours alone, other high-impact crimes have been reported, such as the discovery of a body near an Amazon warehouse, the murder of a teacher and a veterinarian, and the arrest of alleged perpetrators of other armed attacks.
"A man was shot and killed while sitting in his vehicle with his wife, parked in the Cañón Johnson neighborhood."
The persistence of this violence keeps citizens in a state of alert and anxiety, while authorities continue operations to try to contain the crime wave affecting Baja California's most populous city.
