Line 7 of the Madrid Metro is closed until May 4 between San Blas and Cartagena due to roadworks.

Line 7 of the Madrid Metro is closed until May 4 between San Blas and Cartagena due to roadworks.

Madrid Metro has announced that service on Line 7 (Hospital del Henares-Pitis) between the San Blas and Cartagena stations will be interrupted between May 1 and 4 due to signaling works.

Thus, during the May bank holiday, no trains will run through the stations of San Blas, Simancas, García Noblejas, Ascao, Pueblo Nuevo, Barrio de la Concepción, Parque de las Avenidas and Cartagena, although an alternative free bus service will be provided.

Since July 27, service on Metro Line 7B has been suspended between the Hospital del Henares and Barrio del Puerto stations due to infrastructure repairs.

Signaling work on this infrastructure is being carried out primarily at night, but minor outages are required to carry out work that is incompatible with train traffic. Specifically, this is the second of the micro-outages carried out to upgrade the signaling system.

The regional government has chosen this date given the lower travel demand recorded in the area during the first May bank holiday, with the aim of limiting the disruption caused by this type of work, the regional government has stated. Thus, over these four days, more than 300 checks will be carried out on signals, switch motors, track circuits, and PTOs, as well as the operation of test trains, to complete a process that involves more than 1,100 tests of the new equipment.

A plan to renew L7

This project is part of a broader plan aimed at completely renewing the signaling on Line 7 between the Estadio Metropolitano and Pitis stations, with an investment of more than €33 million. Specifically, work will be carried out on 20 kilometers of tunnel and 24 stations.

The renovation will allow for shorter intervals between trains, control of temporary speed limits from the Central Control Post, and the incorporation of the automatic door opening system, known as PATO, which will optimize travel times. The software of 144 cars of the 7000, 8000, and 9000 models will also be updated.

The goal is to increase transportation capacity and improve management, optimizing safety levels in the event of disruptions and breakdowns. Furthermore, the aim is to increase reliability, facilitate service maintenance, and reduce operating costs.
