Sturzenegger announced the end of electrical certification of imported products
The Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, announced this Tuesday the end of the electrical certification of imported products. Resolution 16/25 implies the repeal of several regulatory texts that required local certificates for imported electrical products even if they met international standards and parameters. As an example, the Mileísta official attached photos of electrical appliances that he has at home in his message.
“The torture of electrical certification is over! Let's see if the nonsense is understood: if you wanted to import an Apple computer, of which millions of units are sold around the world, you had to obtain a local certification that demonstrated that its electrical system was safe,” Sturzenegger wrote on his X account, referring to the text that repealed resolutions from the administrations of Raúl Alfonsín, Carlos Menem and Alberto Fernández . He pointed out -in particular- the Albertist Secretary of Commerce, Paula Español, for having signed a rule to require local certificates for equipment with LED lighting. “Due to their low voltage, they do not constitute any risk to humans! These types of obstacles, procedures and obstacles are the things that President Javier Milei asks us to fight against,” the minister continued.
The measure of the libertarian government, which was published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette, annuls resolutions 731/87, 524/98 and 169/18, “eliminating the need for electrical certification when the product complies with IEC standards (which is the international body in electrical engineering).”
“Products under 50V are freed from any control; certification itself is simplified if it were to be done for a national product; Customs intervention in this matter is eliminated; and, finally, the game is opened to new types of plugs and the use of certified adapters” , Sturzenegger listed.
The minister then insisted on another example, saying that a refrigerator from a world-leading producer had to - until now - go through a national certification body to obtain a marketing authorization, be audited at its plants abroad and send samples to be tested once a year, in addition to adapting the plugs. “That is why we are going to put it simply: if the equipment you are importing has the logos CE (Europe), EAC (Eurasia), CCC (China), UKCA (Great Britain), NOM (Mexico), SEC (Chile), Inmetro (Brazil), UL (USA), among several others), no approval or certification from the State is needed anymore,” he said.
He also stressed that if the products meet the conditions mentioned above, Customs does not have to ask the importer for anything. He attached photos of his household appliances with labels proving international validation and extended his congratulations “to the entire team of the Ministry of Commerce headed by Esteban Marzorati , who continues to break down the barriers that have been erected for so many years.”
