They're talking to you, Google: Kenia López Rabadán wants to change the name of Mexico and this is what she proposes

Will Mexico change its name? The vice president of the Chamber of Deputies, Kenia López Rabadán , presented this Monday, February 24, an initiative that seeks to change the official name of the country from “ United Mexican States ” to “ Mexico .”
On her social media, the deputy of the National Action Party (PAN) recalled that our country adopted the name “ United Mexican States ” since 1824, but many Mexican families have never used that name.
Therefore, he proposed through a reform initiative to change the name to simply “ Mexico ”, leaving aside the “ copy of the model of our northern neighbor ”.
“Throughout history we have been called the ' Mexican Republic ' in 1857, the ' Mexican Nation ' in 1824, and even the ' Mexican America ' in 1814, but the name that truly gives us a sense of identity is Mexico. I have presented an initiative for our Constitution to officially recognize what we have always been, Mexico,” he said in a video shared on his X account, formerly Twitter.
He also explained that this change does not alter the form of government, nor the federal system, but rather strengthens the country's national identity, as well as simplifies official documents and aligns the name with international usage .
“The UN and the OAS call us Mexico, even institutions in our country have the name of Mexico, such as the 'Banco de México', the 'Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)', the 'Navy of Mexico' in the face of international challenges in the PAN we propose unity. Mexico is our name: let's make it official,” he said.
This comes amid the Gulf of Mexico being renamed the 'Gulf of America' after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order setting in motion the renaming process.

According to the initiative presented to the Chamber of Deputies , it indicates that the Nahuatl word Mexico comes, according to the most accepted version, from the mixture of the words " Metztli " which means moon, " Xictli " which means center and " Co " which means place, that is, "in the navel of the moon."
"This is because the city of Tenochtitlan was located in the center of the basin where the Aztecs settled and said basin resembled the figure of a rabbit," it is indicated.
In this regard, the vice president clarified that such a change could in no way be considered an abandonment of federalism or a proposal to change the form of government, "since as established in Article 40 of the Constitution, Mexico is a representative, democratic, secular and federal republic, composed of free and sovereign states in everything concerning their internal regime, and by Mexico City, all united in a federation."
It is also noted that the discussion on the official name of the country has been going on for decades through the presentation of initiatives by different political forces, among which stands out that of former President Felipe Calderón , both in his capacity as federal deputy and as Constitutional President of the United Mexican States, as well as the one presented in September 2010 by the National Action Parliamentary Group in the Senate.
