"We understand the Mexican public's concerns, but the conclave is a serious and solemn process. We're not here to award dubious penalties or hand out red cards to the opponent in the 89th minute," the Camerlengo declared.

Doubts grew because there will be no VAR at the Conclave

According to witnesses present in the Vatican area, before the Sistine Chapel was closed for the selection process, each cardinal was frisked to ensure they were not wearing América, Real Madrid, or Argentina national team jerseys, which could be interpreted as signs that they would receive refereeing assistance during the conclave.
