Who will be the head of the unit that will investigate Javier Milei for the $LIBRA case?

The national government appointed María Florencia Zicavo as the person responsible for instructing the Investigation Tasks Unit (UTI) . The official is the current head of the Cabinet of Advisors Unit of the Ministry of Justice and will be in charge of coordinating the tasks to clarify the case of the cryptocurrency $LIBRA . This digital asset was promoted on social networks by President Javier Milei , which generated complaints from alleged investors who would have lost their funds.

The measure was made official through Resolution 72/2025 of the Ministry of Justice , published in the Official Gazette . According to the document, the UTI will be in charge of collecting information about the cryptocurrency and its creation, dissemination and publication process. The investigation will include public officials, companies and people linked to the project. The unit will operate independently and will be able to coordinate with different entities to obtain data that will help clarify the reported facts.

The Government has indicated that the existence of the UTI is essential to guarantee transparency in the exercise of public office. Its work will focus on collaborating with the Judiciary and the Public Prosecutor's Office within the framework of the open file. However, its operation will be temporary and it will be dissolved once the judicial process has concluded. In this context, the Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona , stated that the creation of this unit responds to the need to act quickly in cases involving public officials.

The UTI will have the power to request information and documentation from public sector bodies, provincial entities and international organisations. For the latter cases, it will have the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . In addition, it will be able to access data from different jurisdictions, with the obligation to safeguard the information to prevent its unauthorized alteration or disclosure.

Its functions also include reporting any attempt to conceal, remove or destroy evidence. However, the unit will not have the power to issue judgments on the evidence collected. Its role will be limited to collecting information and collaborating with the competent judicial entities. In this regard, Zicavo must continuously inform the Ministry of Justice about the progress of the investigation and any complaints that may arise in the process.

According to the President's Office , the investigation will be led by the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) . The goal is to determine whether there was improper conduct by government officials, including President Milei himself. The decision to move forward with the UTI was in response to complaints from citizens who claimed to have lost money after investing in $LIBRA . The OA will work in conjunction with the UTI to ensure that the investigation is conducted with the greatest possible transparency.
