Chihuahua and Nayarit strengthen their air connectivity

Chihuahua and Nayarit are strengthening their air connectivity with the addition of new domestic and international routes. These developments aim to attract greater economic growth to both states and consolidate their position as key destinations in the country's tourism and commercial sectors.
The launch of these flights aims to attract more visitors, as well as boost investment, trade, and regional development.
Chihuahua boosts its regional air connectivityAt a ceremony held at Roberto Fierro Villalobos International Airport, Chihuahua Governor Maria Eugenia Campos presided over the inauguration of two new routes operated by TAR Aerolíneas: Chihuahua-Querétaro and Chihuahua-Los Mochis-La Paz.
Both connections, which began operations on July 7 with three weekly flights, seek to consolidate the state's position as a strategic hub for tourism, investment, and trade nationwide.
The governor highlighted Chihuahua's importance in the economic landscape, noting that the state ranked among the top five states with the highest hotel occupancy by the end of 2024, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
He also emphasized Chihuahua's leadership in exports to the United States, which will exceed $75 billion by 2024, as well as its role as the country's leading manufacturer of medical and electronic devices.
For his part, Ricardo Dueñas, general director of the Centro Norte Airport Group (OMA), reported that the Chihuahua airport will operate a total of 12 routes (10 domestic and 2 international). He also announced that 60 million pesos will be invested in its renovation this year, with an expected capacity of more than 1.9 million passengers.
During his participation, Ángel García, Commercial and Operations Director of TAR Aerolíneas, estimated that these new routes will generate an approximate economic impact of 20 million pesos in tourism and commercial services.
Nayarit launches international routeThe governor of Nayarit , Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, announced the opening of a new international route that will connect Vancouver, Canada, with Tepic.
The direct flight, operated by Air Canada, will begin operations on December 17, 2025, with a weekly frequency on Wednesdays and a capacity for 169 passengers.
This is the second international route to Canada announced by the governor in less than a week, consolidating the state's position on the global tourism scene.
Luis Noriega, director of Air Canada in Mexico, emphasized that the new route is a result of confidence in Nayarit's tourism and economic growth, which will allow direct connection between Canada and a region of great natural and cultural wealth, especially relevant following the opening of the new highway linking Tepic with Puerto Vallarta in October 2025.
Likewise, Nathalie Desplas, head of the Tourism Information and Policy Unit of the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, highlighted Nayarit's remarkable tourism growth, with more than 800 lodging establishments and 36,000 rooms, ranking among the top five nationwide in hotel capacity.
Between January and May 2025, more than 1.3 million tourists stayed in the state's hotels, positioning Nayarit as a destination in full consolidation toward world-class tourism.
