Claro Dominicana reported today that it has experienced two outages in its fiber optic network caused by third parties, resulting in intermittent and slow service interruptions in its mobile, data, and fixed internet services nationwide.

The second outage affected the company's redundancy system , a structure designed to maintain service continuity in the event of a power failure.

History of similar incidents

This is not the first outage on Claro 's fiber optic network . In March 2019, work by contractors from the Ministry of Public Works caused two simultaneous outages on the Navarrete-Puerto Plata and Puerto Plata-Nagua sections, affecting millions of users. Service was restored within 1 hour and 49 minutes.

In August 2024, excavation work by contractors from the Monseñor Nouel Water and Sewer Corporation cut cables in Bonao, leaving more than 8,000 customers out of service for nearly six hours.

In July 2024, another outage caused by construction work by the Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (Opret) on the Duarte Highway caused disruptions in areas such as Los Alcarrizos, Bonao, and other sectors, despite the fact that the redundancy system prevented a total collapse.
